Pokemon Gold and Silver - Holdable Items

Each Pokemon can hold one item each and may use it during a battle. This is a list of holdable items used in battle.

Consumed once

All items, even consumed ones, are returned to their original owners after external or Stadium 2 battles. The condition is checked at the end of each round unless noted otherwise.

  • Berry - When the holder's HP loses half of total HP, recovers 10 HP.
  • Berry Juice - When the holder's HP loses half of total HP, recovers 20 HP.
  • Gold Berry - When the holder's HP loses half of total HP, recovers 30 HP.
  • Bitter Berry - When the holder is confused, it is no longer confused.
  • Burnt Berry - When the holder is frozen, it is no longer frozen.
  • Przcureberry - When the holder is paralyzed, it is no longer paralyzed.
  • Psncureberry - When the holder is poisoned, it is no longer poisoned.
  • Ice Berry - When the holder is burned, it is no longer burned.
  • Mint Berry - When the holder is asleep, it is no longer asleep.
  • MysteryBerry - When one of holder's actual moves has 0 PP, restores 5 PP to the first actual move listed with zero PP.
  • MiracleBerry - When the holder is asleep, confused, burned, paralyzed, poisoned, or frozen, it removes that condition.
  • Berserk Gene - As soon as a new round begins (before commands are chosen), if holder is holding this item, its Attack is increased by 2 stages and then, unless it is already confused, the holder becomes confused (Safeguard and Substitute don't affect this), and receives a confusion count of 256 in Gold/Silver/Crystal version. The item is then consumed.

Type-boosting items

These items, when held, increase the damage of attacks of the appropriate type by 10% (see Damage Formula).

  • Polkadot Bow - Normal

  • Poison Barb - Poison

*In Gold/Silver/Crystal version, the Dragon Fang doesn't boost Dragon-type moves, but rather the Dragon Scale does; this behavior was corrected in Stadium 2.

Invoked in battle

  • Brightpowder - Reduces the accuracy of certain attacks by the holder's opponent.
  • Focus Band - If an attack by the opponent would cause the holder's HP to be reduced to zero, it may instead have 1 HP remaining (30/256 chance). (If the holder had endured Fissure or Horn Drill, it can use Counter to return twice the HP lost. No effect if holder has a substitute.)
  • King's Rock - If the holder using one of certain attacks strikes first, the opponent may flinch (30/256 chance) if the opponent lost HP due to that attack. (Prevented by Substitute, but not if the substitute just faded.)
  • Leftovers - At the end of every round, holder recovers 1/16 of total HP.
  • Quick Claw - There is a 23.4% (60/256) chance that the holder may strike first. If this chance succeeds and both active Pokemon hold this item, the one who strikes first is randomly determined (in internal battles, the player always strikes first in this case).
  • Scope Lens - Increases the holder's critical hit ratio.

Pokemon-Specific

  • Lucky Punch - Increases Chansey's critical hit chances.
